It’s March 2017 and this is my first message of the year. A lot has happened since my 2016 message. We have said good bye to a long time Board Member, Don Croucher. Don has been active on our board since the early 1990s and has been a valuable member within our organization. We are sorry to see him go, but know he has a big commitment as Vice President of the California Fire Museum and that consumes much of his time. We have a new Board Member, David Hensel he is a former Reserve Firefighter for the Orange County Fire Authority Station 32. Dave and has been part of the CSFA Steamer Team in the past years, and currently serves as a Board Member on the California Fire Museum. Dave currently works at Chapman University as Facilities Manager at their Irvine Campus. Welcome Dave!

This magazine highlights the Laguna Beach Fire Department. I would like to thank Chief Jeff LaTendresse for making this article available. Also, thanks the other contributors to the Orange County Firefighter Magazine and to Pastor Fernando for his pictures and articles.

This issue has an interesting article from Don Croucher from the California Fire Museum as well as an update of what is going on at the Great Park and the Cultural Terrace which is where the California Fire Museum has been slotted to be. Check out the article under the California Fire Museum section.

We continue updates to our Facebook Page under Orange County Fire Services Association and will be working on enhancements to that page and our website.

Big John Fire Prevention Education Program had a productive 2016. Big John 2 is back in-service with a rebuilt Cummins motor. For 2017 we’re receiving many school requests as well as requests for other events and were looking forward to the possibility of a newer rig to continue the popular program that started back in 1992 with our first Big John.

Again, we are looking for new board members or help for association activities. If you’re interested contact me at We continue to thank Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Fullerton Firefighters Associations for their ongoing support, and all the other individual members for your support.
