Shop With A Firefighter
The "Shop With A Firefighter” is an event organized by the Orange County Fire Services Association (OCFSA). This exemplary community outreach program occurs each year during the holiday season.
Children are given a Walmart Gift card and a chance to explore the aisles, selecting items they might otherwise never have been able to own. However it is much more than just a shopping event—it is an opportunity to connect local firefighters with underprivileged children in the community. Firefighters often take the opportunity to impart life skills, such as budgeting and decision-making, during these shopping trips. ‘Shop With a Firefighter’ creates lasting bonds while teaching valuable life skills, and giving children a sense of hope and joy during the festive season.

Expansion into a Learning Center
Over time, the museum's mission expanded beyond simply preserving history. The learning center aspect of the museum provides interactive exhibits and programs designed to teach fire safety in a hands-on way. These include demonstrations on how to use fire extinguishers, the importance of smoke detectors, and lessons on creating escape plans in case of a fire.
Community Involvement and Events
The museum also hosts regular events, such as firefighter memorial services and safety workshops, bringing together both active and retired firefighters with the public. These events serve to educate and foster a greater appreciation for the history and ongoing contributions of California’s fire services
Future Plans
The California Fire Museum has ambitious plans to expand its operations and reach more people with its message of fire safety and appreciation for the firefighting profession. There have been ongoing efforts to secure a permanent, larger location to house the growing collection and create more interactive exhibits. The museum’s vision includes becoming a central hub for fire history and safety education not just in California but for the entire country.

Maintain Our Talking Fire Trucks and Programs
One of the children's favorite is Big John, the Fire Engine That Talks. Your help also provides for maintaining Big John Educational Fire Trucks in Top Shape. ” Big John” talks about fire safety to the children he “cries” real water from his headlights because he is sad when children are injured by fire and he “smiles and waves” by his light bar lighting up because the children are learning to be fire safe. Children learn about Stop, Drop and Roll, caution about playing with matches, lighters, or cigarettes, and more.
